Best Claude Connectors for Small Business Owners (2026): A Simple Guide

By Ryland Beard,

Claude's connector directory has hundreds of apps in it, and nearly every list of the best ones is written for engineers. This one is for a small business owner. A connector lets Claude read, and where you allow it, act in the tools you already run the business on, so you stop pasting things into the chat and the chat reaches into the tool.

I ran a bookkeeping firm for eight years before building Switchbooks, so I lean toward tools I would trust an assistant with. Six connectors, how to add them, and a walkthrough of connecting Claude to your books.

Is there a bookkeeping connector for Claude?

Yes. Switchbooks is listed in the Claude connector directory as a bookkeeping connector, and it is the first entry below. Connect it and Claude can read your books, run reports, and, with your permission, post transactions, match transfers, and reconcile accounts. The step-by-step guide is Claude bookkeeping connector: how to use Claude for bookkeeping.

How to add a Claude connector

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and click +.
  2. Browse the directory and pick the connector, or choose Add custom connector and paste a server URL.
  3. Sign in to the service when Claude asks, and allow the connection.
  4. In a chat, open +, then Connectors, and turn the connector on.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, your organization owner may need to add a connector first. After that, each person connects their own account.

1. Switchbooks: the books

This one is mine, so I will say so plainly. Switchbooks is bookkeeping software you talk to. Connected to Claude, it reads your books and, if you allow it, keeps them. It categorizes and posts bank transactions, matches the transfers between your accounts so nothing is counted twice, books journal entries, and reconciles an account to its statement from a preview. Ask for last month's profit and loss and it comes back in the chat. Ask what is sitting in To Review and Claude can work through it with you.

Every change Claude makes is recorded in Switchbooks and most can be undone from the same chat. Claude can also hand you a link to connect a bank on Plaid's own sign-in page, so the bank login never passes through the chat. No connected assistant can sign in to your bank, move money, invite or remove people, share a report, or change billing.

Things to say:

  • "Show me September's profit and loss."
  • "What is in To Review? Post anything that matches a rule."
  • "How much have we paid Gusto this year?"
  • "Which accounts are reconciled, and through when?"

The listing is Switchbooks in the Claude directory. The full setup is further down this page.

2. Gmail: the inbox

With Gmail connected, Claude can search your mail, read a thread, and draft replies for you to send. "What did the landlord say about the lease renewal?" gets a real answer. Paired with Switchbooks, Claude can find the invoice a vendor emailed and check whether it was paid.

3. Google Drive: your documents

Contracts, price lists, the spreadsheet you track jobs in. Claude can read your Docs, Sheets, and Slides, answer from them, and help you update them.

4. Slack: the team

Claude can catch you up on a channel you muted, find the decision buried in a thread, and post an update where the team will see it. For a small team it mostly means fewer "did anyone see my message?" moments.

5. Stripe: payments

Payments, customers, invoices, and subscriptions. "Did the Johnson invoice get paid?" and "how many subscriptions churned last month?" are answered from live data. Keep it read-only unless you want Claude issuing refunds.

6. Zapier: everything else

If your scheduling tool, point of sale, or email platform is not in Claude's directory, Zapier is usually the way to reach it, through the automations you already run.

Connecting Claude to your books, step by step

Here is the whole setup for Switchbooks. It takes about fifteen minutes, and most of that is your bank's login screen.

  1. Create a Switchbooks account at switchbooks.ai. Ten days free, no card. You can also create the account during step three.
  2. Connect your bank and cards in the app, or ask Claude to after step five and it hands you a link to Plaid's own sign-in page. Connect every account the business uses so transfers have both sides.
  3. Open the listing and click Connect. Go to Switchbooks in the Claude directory and click Connect. On a Team or Enterprise plan, your organization owner may need to add the connector first.
  4. Choose what Claude may do. Claude sends you to Switchbooks to sign in. You will see a box labeled Allow bookkeeping changes. Keep it checked if Claude may post, match, and reconcile. Uncheck it for a read-only connection that can answer questions and run reports but change nothing. Click Allow. Claude never sees your Switchbooks password. The connection uses OAuth, the same mechanism as "Sign in with Google."
  5. Turn it on in a chat. Open +, then Connectors, and enable Switchbooks. Say "List my Switchbooks companies," then "Use [company name]." If you have one company, it is picked for you.

If you would rather do it by hand, open Customize, then Connectors, click +, choose Add custom connector, name it Switchbooks, and enter the server URL https://app.switchbooks.ai/api/mcp. Same result.

Then brief Claude the way you would brief a new bookkeeper on their first day. What the business does, how you get paid, what the main costs are, and anything you already know you want handled a certain way, like "Amazon over $200 is equipment." It keeps those notes in the books, so they are still there next month. After that, "post everything in To Review you are sure about and list the rest," answer its questions, ask it to reconcile, and ask for the P&L and the balance sheet. A few honest notes

Start with two connectors, not six. For most owners that is Gmail, so Claude can see what is coming in, and Switchbooks, so it can see where the money went. Add the rest when they solve a problem you actually have.

Connect read-only first if you are unsure. Once you trust what Claude reports, allow changes on the tools where its work is easy to review and undo. Switchbooks was built for that: every change is listed in plain words, and you can reverse it from the chat.

Switchbooks is $25 per month per company, with every feature and every connection included. The same login also works in ChatGPT, Grok Bot, and Cursor, so a team can use whichever assistant each person prefers and the books are the same.

Common questions

What is a Claude connector?

A connector links Claude to an outside app or data source, such as your books, your inbox, or your files, so Claude can read from it and, when you allow it, act in it. You add connectors from Customize, then Connectors, in Claude, and turn them on in a chat from the + menu.

How do I add a connector that is not in the directory?

Choose Add custom connector and paste the service's server URL. Switchbooks is listed in the directory at claude.ai/directory/switchbooks, and its server URL is https://app.switchbooks.ai/api/mcp if you prefer to add it by hand. Claude then walks you through signing in.

Can Claude do my bookkeeping?

With the Switchbooks connector, yes. Claude can read your books, run reports, and, if you allow it, categorize and post transactions, match transfers, book journal entries, and reconcile accounts. It can also hand you a link to connect a bank on Plaid's own sign-in page.

Is it safe to connect Claude to my finances?

The connection uses OAuth, so Claude never sees your Switchbooks password or your bank login. Connect read-only when you only want answers. If you allow changes, every change is recorded in Switchbooks and most can be undone from the chat. No connection can move money or sign in to your bank.

Does this work with Claude Team or Enterprise?

Yes. On Team and Enterprise plans an organization owner may need to add the Switchbooks connector first, then each person connects their own Switchbooks account.
